Privacy Policy
For a company retaining clients' data, a privacy policy is a legal requirement, but here at getWEBpresence we feel it is much simpler than that. We don't like to have our details passed on to anyone without our permission and we promise we will treat you in the same way.
In summary, here is our privacy policy:
- getWEBpresence is based in the Uk and our web site is hosted there, so we comply with the UK Data Protection Act (1998)
- We will need to collect information from you if you are doing business with us.
- We will never pass that information on to anybody except where necessary to carry out your business.
- We will give you access to all data held on you and you will be able to keep it up to date.
- If you choose to stop doing business with us, we will delete your data within 30 days.
- We will only contact you with regards to the effective continuation of our business with you.
Here is the legal version of our policy
- getWEBpresence are committed to protecting your privacy. We will only use the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act 1998).
- We collect information about you for the following reasons:
- To process your orders
- To enable to us to renew your hosting or domain name ownership when renewal is due.
- To enable us to maintain a two-way contact with you during development of your web site or setting-up of your hosting package
- To provide you with the best possible service.
- We will need to collect a certain amount of data from you, but we will collect no more than we need. In general this data will be:
- Your name
- Your email address(es)
- Your phone number(s)
- Your address
- Your credit card details
- Such information as will be necessary to carry out the business you request us to do
- We will endeavour to keep all information we hold on you up to date and you are free to amend or delete any of it at any time. Please note that if your name and address do not match the details held by your credit card company, we may not be able to process your payments and your service may be interrupted.
- In accordance with the Uk Data Protection Act 1988, we will not hold any data on you any longer than necessary. In terms of maintaining your hosting or domain name management, this will be for the lifetime of your contract with us. For web site development, we will retain all data held on you until your site is complete and will then delete it at your request. If you do not ask us to delete it, we will retain it up to a maximum of 3 years where it is relevant to potential future maintenance of your site. If you wish us to retain it longer than this, please let us know. In the event of an on-going maintenance contract, we will retain such data as necessary to carry out this contract for the lifetime of the contract. In the event of the cancellation of your last contract with us, we will endeavour remove all of your data from our system within 30 days and where this is impossible (e.g. due to staff absence) at the very earliest opportunity.
- We will never collect sensitive information about you without your explicit consent.
- The personal information which we hold will be held securely in accordance with our internal security policy and the law.
- We don't do marketing mail. If we contact you it will be relevant to our continuing business with you, in particular with reference to contract renewals. We may on occasion offer you new services, updates to old services or discounts on services, but that will be the limit to the extent of anything which may be construed as marketing.
- We will never pass your information onto a 3rd part except where it is essential to carry out your business or unless we are required to do so by law. In particular, in the case of your domain name management through us, we will pass your details onto Heart Internet, the company through whom we register domain names. Their privacy policy can be seen on their web site. We will also need to pass on your credit card details to a credit processing agency in order to verify your details when processing your payments.
- It is unlikely that we will transfer your information outside the EEA (European Economic Area), but if we do we will always obtain your consent first. We may at times need to access your information from elsewhere the world in order to carry out your business or instructions even if one or all of us are our out of the UK at the time. In this event, your details will still reside on our UK server.
- At getWEBpresence we use a technology called "cookies" to enable you to remain logged in as you move from page to page. Cookies do enable the gathering of some personal data, but only that with which you have provided us or with which your computer automatically provides all web sites you visit. In general these cookies will expire (be removed) when you log out or shortly after your leave our site. We will give you the option to have a non-expiring cookie left on your computer ("Remember me", "Keep me logged in"). You are welcome to block our cookies at any time, but it will reduce the efficiency of your web experience with us.
